Introduction To Anti-Snoring Devices
Snoring is painful, especially if you and your partner can not get a restful night of sleep. A lack of sleep means you start the day tired and irritable, your work suffers and if you are driving while tired, you may be putting yourself and others at risk. Most people snore every now and again, particularly men and overweight people. Studies have shown that 45 percent of men and about 30 percent of women snore on a regular basis.
Snoring is basically caused when the passage between the nose and the throat is narrowed. In other words air moving into the lungs from the mouth or nose is restricted. The muscles in this passage way become relaxed when a person falls asleep. Thus when oxygen is inhaled, the air moves faster through a narrow passage, strikes the tissue of the soft palate and uvula with a great force, thereby causing snoring sounds. In some cases the noise can be mild, while in others it can be of a high and unpleasant volume. The volume of the snore is actually dependent upon the force of the air that enters the narrow airway. So as you can imagine, the faster and stronger the speed of the air, the louder the snoring.
Snoring causes can be related to alcohol and drug consumption. Drugs such as a sleep aid or tranquilizer promote muscle relaxation, thereby narrowing the air passage way and thus causing an individual to snore.
A stuffy nose due to a cold or sinuses can also promote snoring. When the nose is blocked, less air is entering the nasal passage, so the throat sucks air from the mouth with more force, thereby causing one to snore.
Overweight people tend to snore on a regular basis, as the fatty tissue found on the throat constricts the passage way. The excess fat will typically make it more difficult to breathe throughout the day, but more so at night. Some physical attributes such as large adenoids, large tonsils, a long tongue or a deviated septum can also cause snoring.
In addition, sleeping on one’s back can cause snoring too. This action results in the tongue and jaw being pulled back due to gravity and limits the amount of air entering the passage way.
Although we know what some of the snoring causes are, in some cases a peaceful night of sleep might not be attainable. However, with the aid of anti snoring devices, it might just be possible.
